Ausstellung | bau1haus. Die Moderne von Essen bis Asmara

Photographs by Jean Molitor

Over 1,000 photographs by Jean Molitor showcase global modern architecture at the Zollverein UNESCO World Heritage Site. The exhibition combines architectural history, cultural heritage and interactive educational formats to create an international exhibition experience.

The exhibition at the Zollverein UNESCO World Heritage Site presents over 1,000 photographs from the collection of Berlin-based photographer Jean Molitor. Since 2009, Molitor has been documenting global modern architecture across all continents – from North Rhine-Westphalia through Europe, America and India to Asmara in Eritrea. His precise visual language combines documentary accuracy with artistic ambition and brings endangered buildings to light. The exhibition presents modernism as a global cultural heritage, a colonial legacy and a cultural movement. It is complemented by guided tours and an interactive BauRaum, which invites visitors to participate and exchange ideas.
